Jeep Wrangler speedometer cable

cabin boy

Question

I am getting a metallic type noise coming from my dashboard but only when I am going 45-60 mph. I am thinking it is the speedometer cable? Any other ideas? Is it possible to lubricate these things? How difficult to replace? Also is there a way to test the current cable, the pointer doesn't jump around or anything. The noise starts about 45mph and goes away above 60 mph. Sorry for the rambling post! Thanks in advance guys! confused.gifconfused.gif

I don't think one this new of wrangler has a speedo cable. There should be a speed sensor on the back side of the transfer case rather than a speedo cable. It may be the instrament cluster itself making the noise. specifically the speedo head.

Before I did anything I would remove the instrament cluster and drive it to make sure the noise has stopped. If it continues that it may be originating from the outside of the vehicle and has the illusion of coming from the back side of the dash.
