Guest
In Minnesota it is illegal to take fish with the aid of artificial light. I remember this was debated last year. Some were wondering if using a lantern for night fishing was legal or bordering on acting as an attractant making it illegal. Anyone remember the outcome? cwmn
I think it's submersable lights that are illegal.
Guest
I saw jigs that have flashing lights at a minnetonka bait store. Are these legal? I would assume if they are selling them, they are legal.
Nels
According to the 2001regs(which end today):Using an artificial light to lure or attract fish, or see fish when spearing, is unlawful. Except while angling, a person may affix to the end of a fishing line a lighted artificial bait with hooks attached. Any battery that is used in lighted fishing lires cannot contain any intentionally introduced mercury. The second sentence is poorly worded. I believe the 2002 regs have cleared it up - Exception: While angling...This would seem to say that lighted baits are legal.
Guest
Aaahhhh if only we could use submersible lights.... In Minnesota it is illegal at all times to use submersible lights for the purpose of spearing or angling. This does not include lighted lures, which give off minimal light. This includes lanterns that are under the water line (also the below the ice line. When ice fishing at night, we used to drill two holes that were connected, and stop drilling 3 inches from the bottom of the ice. We would then set the lantern down in the hole. This would light all of our fishing holes up like you wouldn't believe. We also caught quite a few fish. Turns out, it's illegal, go figure We no longer employ this practice. Good Luck,Rusty
