Uncle Grump
Years ago - more than I care to think about, you used to be able to get a grub type baitat the tackle shops/bait dealers called mousies. They were about as long as wax worm, and had a short tail - like a mouse, hence the name. When you would put a hook in them, they oozeda liquid which would form a cloud in the water. Panfish loved them!I haven't seen them in years - any ideas if they are still sold, and if so, where to getthem?BTW - I did find a little pack of artifical grubs that look like mousies - complete to the little tail - but alas - no ooze. Foundthese at Fleet Farm - cost was about $1.39. I tryed them on the sunfish this (last) weekend - caught several nice fish with them. I hooked them on to a #12 pink (glow) jig sothat the body and tail dangled, with a slip bobber and 1# test line on a noodle rod. UG
i'majigger
I know what you mean! When I first started ice fishing an old feller took me under his wing and showed me how to catch bluegills and the one thing he told me was that if I did'nt use mousies on my hook I could just as well stay home and watch cartoons on tv. That old friend of mine has since passed on and to this day I still think of him when I catch a sunny! I'm sorry but I like you have looked for mousies at the bait shops and have not seen them in years, I also check my outdoor magazines for them but to no avail. Maybe God just stopped making them!!!!! Guest
A friend and I just found them last weekend at a bait shop in Lake Park, MN (near Detroit Lakes). The owner said that he hasn't stocked them for awhile, they kind of disappeared or something.I've never seen them before!
Guest
Can still get them in Marquette County here in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. I am a jumbo perch guy, so wigglers are the ticket on my home lake. But I know of bluegill anglers that like them.(For bait, that is!)

Cliff Wagenbach
I haven't seen them in years either, butI found them at Lucky 7 in Virginia Minn. this winter. I tried them and also waxies at the same time and the waxies out fished them. But the sunnies were hungry that day too! They would probably work best when the sunnies are in their usual picky mood as they are a lot smaller than wax worms.Cliff------------------Cliff's Guide ServiceCliffsGuideService-LakeVermilion.comLake VermilionPhone: (218) 753-2005
Guest
They had them in the local bait shop in Northeastern WI where I grew up. I usually had both waxies and mousies with me when I was out fishing for gills. Some days it seemed like they would prefer one over the other. On other days you could put anything down there and catch fish. I think its like comparing eurolarve to waxies over here in MN.
