Lunker
I'm lucky enough to attend college in Stevens Point, located on the Wisconsin River, open year round for game species, with special regulations of course. Now that the waters warming up, I have begun to target one of our favorites, the smallie, and doing well. Was out on sunday and monday, fishing shallow rocky stretches(1-4 ft of water). Similar reports for both days. Fishing plastics was surprisingly slow(and difficult with the wind), so I fished small(1.5") craw cranks and spinnerbaits(white). Fish are active, hitting fast retrieved crankbaits primarily. Caught about 6-10 fish each day, biggest around16" but fat. Quick pics and releases, spawning season afterall. For all you that want to scratch that bass itch back in MN, you don't have to wait until bass opener. I believe sections of the Mississippi are open all year.

RickyBobby
I too am a Pointer. I was there in the mid 80's during the glory days below Dubay Dam. 5 pound walleyes, 1 pound crappies, and 10 pound northerns were common, and would often all be available at the same times and locations. I regret not exploring the area,s bass fishing. I spent too much time at Dubay Dam and on the Tomorrow River (and in classes).

Lunker
Yea, I came here for the CNR college. Started as a Fisheries major, switched to wildlife and environmental law enforcement. The days of 5 lb walleye are definitley over, you can catch 50 a day, but maybe two will be legal(15"). Thankfully, the 1lb crappie and the 10lb northern are still very present. I caught a bunch of 12-13" crappies yesterday actually, and lost one legitimate 15". Lots of good fishing still to be had, and the bass are good as well.
