Why do that ........

Recommended Posts

On another HSOforum ( Musky web site ) a subject was brought up by a moderator / owner who's subject matter was sure to upset a few people . There were warnings about staying inbounds with comments , by the moderator , when the subject was introduced . Why would he start up a controversial dialog then close it down when it goes exacty the way he knew it would ? As a moderator why would you open a can of worms your not willing to let run ?

Personally, I thought it was information that was important to share, even though controversial. As the moderator said before he locked the post, the discussion was kept relatively civil. He locked it because he didn't want it to go the other direction and he felt the discussion had run its course.

Alternatively, he could have made this post as informational only by not allowing responses. But we all know that someone would have started a new post of their own on that subject. Way too many heated opinions on that subject for people to remain quiet.

I guess thats what I mean . There was really only one way that it would go so to open it knowing that is kind of like opening Pandora's Box . I don't understand what good possibly might have come from introducing a subject like that . How was it beneficial to anyone ?

I can see your point. But I'm glad he shared the information. It's good to know that fish like those exist in that area, even if it's an area that I don't frequent. More importantly, giving people the knowledge of what's going on in the area is also important. I see any type of credible and accurate information as education. And if we use that education in the correct way it can be beneficial down the road.

On the other side of things, why would sharing that type of information be a bad thing? Certainly it's nothing that we need to know. And we don't want to pit two sides against each other. But I would rather have that information than to be oblivious to the fact of what's going on.

Ahhhhh.... HUH?????????????????

What ARE you guys talking about?

As happens every spring as soon as the ice goes out, certain individuals are on certain lakes (in our neighboring state) taking fish by means that they have the legal rights to do. A controversial subject in itself. The reason this was brought to people's attention this week is because of the size of a few of these fish that were taken.

The latest is that they'll be getting to retailers by the end of May. Hopefully that's what we're looking at. The date keeps getting pushed back.

The moderators on that site are draconian. Their opinion of letting a discussion run its course is to write a lengthy essay, delete everone eles posts and then freeze the thread.

THat being said they have been able to create a bit of a police-state-utopia and that board is far and way the most on-point and informative.

I just saw somebody posted about the same thing . How long till the door gets slammed on it . My opinion on that particular subject will remain my opinion - my curiosity is what is allowed to be posted and at what point is it closed . When it makes them look bad ? At what point is it considered out of control ? When it differs from their take on a certain subject ?
