Can I run a 24 v trolling motor on a 12 v battery? Well I know I can is it hard on the trolling motor?

Why in the world would you want to? For one thing, it would have half the power and half the speed. Another thing is that you may ruin it. If cash is so tight that you cant afford another battery, how can you get the boat to the lake?

I was just wondering because it looks like they make a 12v, 12/24v and a 24v trolling motor. Looks like I'm out today to buy two new Optima's.

The 12/24 trolling motors usually have a switch for either 12/24 volts or you have to change your wiring on the plug side. 24v is the only way to go. The trolling motors run cooler and longer.
