ramsey county sherrif closes lakes!!!

FYI as of this morning (2/15)
the ramsey county sherrifs has closed 4 lakes. White Bear, Bald Eagle, Geravis?,
i don't recall the 4th.

the sherrifs office will help for no charge removing houses as of THIS weekend.

What is the ice like on those lakes?
To close I would think they would have to be pretty scary for a sheriff to shut down? Is there open water. I guess I am really curious the reasoning behind this call!

From what I have heard there are spot of open water on all these lakes, and a few really thin ice spots nearby the open water. They are afraid with the temps that these open water and thin ice spots will grow with a little bit of wind, and eventually open up bigger chuncks of the lake.

These metro lakes never really got the thickness they needed to be able to hold ice. We are looking at open water very early this season, could be great crappie fishin!
