Log Siding

I want to put log siding on my house, I want to do it myself I have not ever done anything like this before, and I need some pointers; Has anyone ever put log siding on themselves and how hard is it? Also, the front of my house has a brick siding that is 4 ft high, running the length of the house. How do I compensate for removing this siding when the block extends about 2" with it removed? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

not that hard a good skill saw and blade, and a good mitre saw with a good blade are almost a must. we make corners out of 2 by 4s, we use a framing square to make the angle of the pitch for the gable ends. not sure what you mean about the block extending 2 inches.

I don't know if this would work or not, but could you get get some sort of brown metal flashing to cover up the foundation blocks. By using a brake, you could bend a piece of tin which would in an essence wrap the block. Make sure you have enough tin on the top to nail to you sheating. If you have some sort of flowerbed in front, it would be easy to bank the lower part of the tin with dirt, thus keeping the tin tight to your block. Then all you would have to do is slide your starting row of siding on top of the foundation lip and you should be starting off pretty level.

This is just a suggestion! It is hard to really think logically without seeing the home.

Good Luck!
