Lowrance X15 MT

I have this unit not sure how old (maybe 5 years). I was talking to the fishing manager at Reed's in Baxter over the weekend (phone) and he told me that this unit will not run either of the new Navionics or Lakemaster cards. He said that the processor in my unit is too small? I am currently running an older version of Navionics (again not sure of the age). The chip is 16 MB, the guy at Reed's says the new chips are much larger. Anyone else out there run this unit and/or try using a newer chip? Thanks a lot guys!

I ran the old version of the Lake Master MN chip in my X-15 with no problems. I bought the new version of the MN chip this winter with more lakes on it but never had a chance to try it in the X-15 to see if there were any compatibility issues. The "old" Lake Master chip WILL work though.

I have an X15 MT and run the Lakemaster Pro chip just fine. You just need the updates.

Do you run the new chip or an older version? Also do you know what size your chip is?

The new 07' chip and it's 128MB. I also run a 512MB chip in the other slot. The instructions say to run a 32MB memory chip but the bigger one works fine.

All I have in mine is 1 chip, it is 16mb. I wonder if the guy at Reed's was mistaken or? What is your 2nd chip for?

New info! I just got off the phone with the tech guy at Lowrance and he said it is true that the new Navionics card will not work in my unit.So, my choices are either be satisfied with what I currently have or go out and buy a new unit.

I think you may be a bit confused. The X-15 has room for two memory chips. You can put a pre-formatted mapping chip (Navionics or Lake Master) in one slot and then a blank chip in the other slot for your own storage of waypoints that you create.....just like a floppy disc for a computer used to store files. They can run at the same time. Use the pre-formatted mapping chip for the lake contours and then while you're out on the water you can create waypoints of your "hotspots". When you get home you can then copy those waypoints to the blank chip in the 2nd slot. Or, if you don't want to the locator will store them as well but it's always nice to have a back up.

You can get the Lake Master chips and they will work with your X-15, so no, you don't have to be satisfied with what you have unless you want to run the new Navionics and then you WILL have to upgrade to a new locator.

BTW, the blank chip I used to run in my X-15 was 256MB. As mentioned above, be sure to download the latest operating system updates from Lowrance.
