Jiffy Ice Auger Problems

Guest

Recommended Posts

I just bought a new Xl 3000 and used it today for the first time. Mine also seem doggy like it lacks power.Do you have to take the red caps off to adjust the carb? Or do you turn the red caps to adjust it? What adjustments does each screw do? Which is which? Thanks for the help.

I have a Jiffy model 30, about 10 years old and I can kick my buddies brand new strikemasters butt!! I will have to tell him about the carb settings because his is a bit sluggish. Now I have a question. WHat kind of nut is used to hold on the socket head cap screw that hold on the auger half. I took my auger out the other day and the auger fell off. I have the bolt, but i'm not sure what was holding it on. I am using a nylock nut now but does anyone know what is the factory nut??
Thanks, Ruegs23

I own a Jiffy with a 3hp. powerhead (it is about 3yrs. old). It starts fine and cuts great but after you let it idle you must prime it before you open the throtle. If it is not primed it will sputter and kill. I feel it may be the timing? Any suggestions?

Note: I have brought it into get repaired twice with no luck.

I don't have any factory setting records, but you really don't need them. Most augers will run if you turn the screws out 1 1/2 turns. They won't run good, but at least it will run and you can adjust from there. The screw on the right should adjust the high speed(drilling), and the left screw will be the low speed(idle). You can adjust the low speed however you want it, easier starting and a little more choppy idle, or good strong idle but a touch more finicky to start. As far as I know, the high speed should be set rich enough so the auger "cleans" itself out in two or three seconds. You know what I mean, start out drilling, then the auger picks up some RPM and sounds a little higher pitched. Hope my instructions aren't too far off, and helped anyone that needed them.
