Motor Mount Trolling Motor problem

I have a problem with my motor mount trolling motor that was already on the rig when I purchased it. I can't seem to get it to work. There is just the control box for power, which goes to a mounted box and then the cable goes to the trolling motor then a positive and negative cable to the battery. The battery cables from the battery are wired into a plug, appears to be a normal male - female plug. When I took that apart it was corroted.

Will I need to get a trolling motor plug or is there a way to run the positive and negative battery cables directly to the power box? I hope this is descriptive enough since I don't have any pictures of this.
