Hammer Handle
Many on lakes, maybe some larger water (lake Superior?) and Mille Lacs.I know there is a lot to chose from. Any ideas on wear to find used ones? What would you suggest for a "non-tippy" canoe for a guy that is 6'5" and 250 pounds??
Powerstroke
A non-tippy canoe is pretty easy to find. You need to find canoes that are wider and not labeled "tripping" canoes. The term tripping came out of people trying to sell racing canoes for the BWCA folks looking for faster lightweight boats. You should look for boats that are wide and have a "rocker" measurement. Most of the major brands show their boats on a HSOforum and list their dimensions. You want a wider bottom boat. Try finding some events for testing out differnt boats. REI has them occasionally and there is a big one in Ely every spring called Paddledaze. You can test paddle all the boats the outfitter sells for free. They don't have Souris River boats, but a short drive out to Red Rock on Jasper Lake and you can test paddle the SR boats.
