Drift Socks

mervthefishingwonder

Question

I have an Alumacraft 175 Magnum CS and I am looking to purchase a drift sock. My wife "suprised" me and picked one up at the local sports store. I think she may have bought me too small of one. The 25" one states on the back that it will be big enough for an 18 ft boat in brezzy conditions. Only thing is, I can fish in breezy, its windy that I have a problem. Any answers from people who have experience would be helpful!

I'd say keep it. Certain conditions call for certain sizes of drift socks. The 25" really isn't a very big sock for an 18' boat, even in 'breezy' conditions. I would get at least three different drift socks - maybe a 36", a 40", and a 44". If you can't get the exact speed you want with those, you can always throw the 25" over as well, or do some combination of the others.
