Shack
Is this legal or am I a turkey my self for thinking of such a thing. I never have hunted turkey's yet, but I have encountered them in the woods. When they get spooked, there very stealthy things on getting away in thick cover. Maybe you could hunt them like coons. They are just like any other game bird. You corner them and they flush. As a matter of fact, I think they are the only bird you never hear people hunting with dogs.

riverrat56
It acctually is legal in some states, only for fall hunting, they use them to bust up the flocks then call them back and the dogs lay next to the hunters in a little blind.... But in MN it is illegal.

Borch
Turkeys are managed as big game rather than the upland game classification. Many of those same game laws that protect deer protect turkeys. For additional background on why I'd encourage you to email the good folks at the MN DNR. They have always replied to my questions in a respectful prompt manner. cw642
This is a strange subject. I have been out running the dog in the fall and seen a turkey or two. Once we were walking an area dnr land and came across a turkey. The dogs moved in, pointed and the turkey held. I walked in to flush what I thought was going to be a pheasant. Woosh the darn thing took to flight. It scared the heck out of me. It only flew about 15 yrds then landed, because it had an arrow sticking threw its body. It was early fall(out conditioning the dogs for SD opener) and I figure it was a deer archery hunter as fall turkeys was not open yet. I don't think hunting them with dogs would work very well. The only reason that one held was because that poacher had shot him, and he still had an arrow in him. Most others I see while out with the dogs are hightailing it before we start into the field.
