Guest
I haven't had too much trouble finding the pike this winter, but I haven't really gotten into the walleye too well. I realize that things vary, but I was wondering if I could get some feedback on bite times for walleye as well as some depths. Thanks.hsolist&MEL"The Big One is down there, keep at 'im"
LaVoi
Well hsolist&MEL, Generally you want to get out for the eyes in the low light periods. As the walleyes have an advantage in their eyes will let in more light when it is dark. Because of this advantage they have over baitfish these our their heavy feeding periods. Midnight is also a good time to get out there. I'm sure these experts on here have plenty of good advice for you as well, make sure you let me know how you do next time your out. Grabs
Well as I have found out over the last two weekends, the bite can vary greatly! But like already stated, your best times to hopefully catch a bite is during the low light periods. What I experienced during the first weekend out was a bite from 6pm-8pm, midnight-3am, 9am-11am. And then I go up this weekend and the only time the fish would bite was from 2am-8am. We did catch a couple of fish at dusk on Sunday night, which clues me to think that the bite time is shifting again. This is a neat thing to experience, the ability to see the bites be fairly consistant over the course of a weekend, but really vary from week to week. Your best bet is to fish a sleeper house, because you can never predict when they are going to bite.
Guest
I agree with LaVoi, I caught two walleyes this past weekend during twilight periods. One was caught at about 5pm and the other at 6pm. Most of my winter walleyes hit around 4-8am and 3-8pm. Occationally I'll tag one during midday but rare. Caught two, 10 minutes from eachother, at around midnight during early ice. I would still bet on twilight fish though.Good Fishing, Matt.
