Cedar Lake - NW Ontario

I am new to the forum and am planning a trip to NW Ontario. Has anyone fished Cedar Lake or visited Cedar Point Resort? I am heading up the first week of July.

Do any of you have any input on this system?

Welcome BCM 26! I hope someone can chime in here and give some insight on Cedar Lake for ya. I'm unforutanately an expert of nothing, but tend to put all my eggs in one basket. (Lake of the Woods)

I went to Cedar Point resort every year growing up. It was a great walleye factory in the 80's and early 90's. As a matter of fact, my brother was a dock boy there for two summers. It seemed to us that the netting pressure on the lake made for tuff walleye fishing. This is just my opionion.

If you are into bass fishing bring some gold number 2 mepps with you. Put a inch peice of red rubber band on one of the hooks and cast away. There are some beautiful smallies in the lake that are under fished. Find some shallow rock piles and have fun. If you are bringing kids this is a great way to keep them on fish.

A friend of mine went there last summer and did manage to catch some walleyes but it was a far stretch from how we used to do in the 80's. He had hot weather with very little wind.

On the other hand Cedar is a world class musky lake. Directly in front of the resort is a area called Time Square. Many muskies were taken from that area when I used to visit this lake. The go to Lure used to be a number 5 Mepps for the Muskies.

There is a lot of water to cover including Perrault lake all the way to rat gut bay. We always had the best luck in July fishing 5 to 8 feet of water with a red floating head jig with a leech. Set this up like a lindy rig using egg sinkers and you should do alright. I say egg sinkers do to the rocky structure in the lake. Bell sinkers seem to get caught in the rocks much easier than eggs. Bring lots of hooks and sinkers. You will find yourself retieing due to snags.

The resort itself is rustic. They run the entire resort on a generator system. You will get used to the sound. Hey, At least you won't have a phone to bother you. I would also suggest bring a mouse trap or two with you.

I hope this doesn't scare you away from your trip. I am just trying to be honest with you.

This is a beautiful area and you will have a great time.

The fish cleaning house is a cool sight. Everyone that has caught a large fish at that resort has written thier name on the wall along with what they caught and when they caught it. Look for my name. My dad and I are in there a couple times with 9 and 10 pound walleyes.

Thank you for the info on Cedar Lake. I am going to keep looking around but need to find something during the week of July 1st. I can't break the bank quite yet. My funds are very limited. Sounds like an interesting place though. Musky fishing is always entertaining if you get into a few.
