Juan Grande
I'm wondering if anyone can recommend a campsite (public or private) within an hour and a half of the Twin Cities?Looking for something on a decent lake with a good beach that accepts large parties. Has anyone ever camped at Father Hennepin?

barnyard
Father Hennipen is a great state park. We stayed there a couple of times. Nice campsites, walking trails and very close to good early season fishing spots.Tom B
dewydog
Juan, Father Hennepin is nice and it has large camp sites as well. Make sure to take the boat and i will meet you up there??? Just kidding. If you want we have a book full of campsites located in Minnesota by city. Let me know if you want to look at it and i will bring it by. troutlandr
Hola Juan,I have camped at Father Hennepin and it is a decent park. The sites can be somewhat small. The beach is nice, sandy with a pretty good sized play area for the football or frisbee. It gets busy with people who go up to boat. Keep an eye out for the albino deer. Mille Lacs/Kathio is nice too. Nice little chain of lakes at the head of the Rum. It has some nice cabins too, if your into that kind of camping. Plenty of room for a large group.Banning is nice if you like rivers and whitewater canoeing. It has some very nice hikes, too. For a large group who needs a lot of room I would suggest St Croix. There's a lot to do there. All of these are assuming you want to go North.

I will say though the services have started to go down hill the past few years (funding cutbacks)... My grand mother donated a bench on the point right past the boat launch down by the beach.. Great place for taking pictures of sunsets...
