Yamaha 115 4 stroke ????

Quick question for all of you experts from an amateur..... I have an 05 yamaha 4 stroke outbaord that was new mid summer last year. Ran it for the second half of the season.

Last fall i was traveleing a lot for work and didn't have a chance to winterize beyond adding fuel stabilizer. What steps should i take this spring to have it ready for the upcoming season? Did i potentially do any damage by not winterizing it? It was stored in a non-heated gargae.

Please let me know your input and thank you for the help!

By far from an expert here but I doubt you hurt it any, just the fact that you got a stabilizer into the fuel you probably did more than most I'd just put the water muffs on fire it up let it warm up and then change your fluids if you do that kind of stuff.

If there was water in your lower unit and you didn't drain it that may cause a problem. I would definitely drain it and put fresh lube in. It is pretty easy to do and this is one area that an ounce of prevention is worth way more than a pound of cure.

Did you change the engine oil after the break-in period? If you didn't do that you would probably want to.

I would also recomend running a can of Sea Foam through the tank. That will clean out any of the gunk that may have built up in the motor from stale gas, condensation, etc. I usually put a can of Sea Foam in every couple of tanks of gas. I also run premium so it is just gas and not any of the other additives in regular gas.

I also have a Yamaha 115.

Check the lower unit oil seal behind the prop. If it is not leaking, you probably do not have any problems caused by water that may have leaked into your lower unit last fall.

1. Change the oil

2. Change lower unit grease

3. Fill gas tank with fresh gas and add a bottle of Seafoam.

You should be ready for a new season!
