Bass Leagues

First of all, great forum!! I read it almost daily.

I fish a bass league west of the Twin cities metro. We’re big enough that we get lake permits for each lake we fish. I’m looking for suggestions how leagues can communicate where their going to be each week.

The reason for communicating these plans would be to:

1. Avoid multiple leagues on the same lake that night or week. Ex. 3 outings last year had double ups the same day.

2. Avoid conflict with water recreationist on the water and landings.

One suggestion for improved communication is for the DNR to publish a league / tournament permit list issued by Region, Lake, and Date.

I’m aware of the HSOforum Classic Bass, they do a wonderful job of listing tournaments, but I’m not sure about local leagues.

Any suggestions for posting schedules on this forum? What are your suggestions here or elsewhere?

First, be SURE you don't need a permit:

A permit is required for any fishing contest that is limited to specifically named waters if one or more of the following apply:

There are greater than 30 participants for open-water contests or 150 participants for ice-fishing contests

The entry fee is greater than $25 per person

The total prize value is greater than $25,000 or

The contest is limited to trout species only.

Second, without a permit, you always run the risk of fishing the same waters as another club. We had a permit a couple of years ago for N/S Center. When we arrived, there were 3 other clubs without permits. This made for some interesting fishing. mad.gif

Dietz heard one of the clubs taking off at 6:00 am from his house.

Imbass, thanks for the reply.

Our league exceeds the participant number, therefore we are required to have permits.

I think that most clubs, leagues, and tournaments want to avoid each other for a set day or week on a single body of water. Additionally, the DNR usually limits the number tournaments on certain bodies of water depending the lake acres. Theres plenty of water for all leagues, clubs and tournaments to enjoy. Just think it could be improved by publishing organized fish outings.

Its not much fun driving 50 miles to lake to be greated by two other clubs that evening or day.

Any ideas?

The league I fished in, if we encountered another league our "commisioner" would exchange phone numbers with the other head of the league and they would correspond preseason to avoid overlaps, as well as look at the schedule for the remainder of the season. If you do see other leagues don't be afraid to approach them "most" are friendly! and want the same things you do.
