1/8" aluminum diamond plate strength ?

The side steps on my boat trailer need replacing (fore and aft of each fender). I was considering replacing them with aluminum diamond plate. It only needs to span about an 8-9 inch gap between underlying support rails. I realize it will flex some, but would 1/8 inch thick be strong enough ? Does anyone know where to find some "leftovers" that might be had inexpensively ? I'd need 2 pieces at 9"x34" and 2 at 9"x26". thanks...

Home Depot and Fleet Farm sell it in small pieces. I believe that it would be strong enough in that short of a span, or maybe you could bump up the thickness just to be sure.
