Lowrance Explorer gps is an upgrade from the H2O with an electronic compass and barometric altimeter along with scout mode. This gps is as close to new as you can get. I bought one a couple months ago and had troubles with the compass so returned it to Lowrance. In the mean time I upgraded to the color version Expedition. Lowrance returned me a brand new unit that I have only turned on to make sure everything is in good working order. For more details please see lowrance HSOforum. Retails for $200. Does it take MMC chip for mapping?

Yes it takes all the mapping chips out there I am aware of. You can also save all of your waypoints and trails on a MMC card so that you have a backup copy.
