Generator and the fishouse

Generators are ideal for powering all those goodies some fisherpeople must have to make a day of it. I don't like the noise, but I try to stay away from the crowds anyways. I suppose with a generator set-up when you're in the house you can crank the ghetto-blaster way up and drown out all the noise it makes! Some of the 4 strokers are pretty quiet these days.

Regards....Fisky

I was considering the same idea on my 14' crank-up and decided against it because of the following three reasons.
One-noise pollution, I own a honda and although there may be quieter brands I wouldn't like listening to that noise any more than the rest of the critters above or below the ice.
Two-if mounted on the shack anywhere it would vibrate the whole shelter.
Three-it would be one more thing taking up space in the vehicle on the way home because if you try and leave something like a generator out on the lake it will be gone before you get back.
Sad I know, but I see break-ins, and vandalisms all day long at work. Don't kidd yourself into thinking that element doesn't exist out on the frozen tundra.
I still think that 12V is the more practical and cleaner option. A solar or wind powered charger/generator may be the ticket to keep the deep cycle batteries at peek capacity but than again that works for me because the batteries from my boat are only collecting dust all winter long if not being put to use in my shack.
That's one of the things I like about fish houses,.....no two are ever the same. These are the reasons I did away with the idea and so far I have no regrets.I hope this helps-TROY

ps-I'm not saying that I couldn't still bring the generator along and run an extension cord through a window, door or something but Peter Jennings,Tom Brokaw or even ESPN got a long way to go before they can compete with the voice of Mother Nature in my " little castle."

Thanks for the reply.
I talked to a guy that made a box out of norboard and 2" foam and placed the generator inside the box. I also thought, besides the box i could put the whole thing in the box of the truck to keep the rest of the noise off the ice. Think it would work?

Maybe! I guess there's one way to find out right? What do you need all the juice for if I may ask?-Troy

PS--I am in to my first permanent house so I am no expert by any means-just curious.A twenty footer seems huge to me.What do you have in it?

I have an 8x12 right now. Rule of thumb, you design a house that you think is right. Make it bigger. That is what I have found out anyway. Have not made the 20' house yet. But I am making this house with 9 holes, 8 for fishin and 1 for the new aqua vu , small bathroom, bunks and so on. Like home away from home. Tv, and couch too.

I have a little 1000 Watt Honda in my crank down. It sits in the back of my pickup and I leave the lid down. You have to listen pretty hard to hear it. The only draw back is I can power a small mirowave but it is too small for my convection oven. Guess them are the Berries. When we want to do Turkey, Game hens,or bake fish I have to take my Honda 3500 Watt. With this noise is more of a problem.

Whopper-That's funny! Who are you really? Your humor fits closely with that of Dave or maybe Kelly P. Fisher-people. Always good for a laugh.-Troy-

PS-look at the bright side! Next time the fishing is a little slow and you can't keep your honey entertained just pop a little bottle of hand lotion into the micro and see if you can't talk her into a little back rub. wink.gifhe he he

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
