130 hp Honda 4 stroke

Well, I'm probably a little bit biased, but I'm not a real big honda fan.

They make a good motor that runs pretty well, the one thing I really don't like about the 130 is how heavy it is. The older (I'm not sure if they've changed since 2002 much or not) 130's were a extremely heavy four stroke motor for the hp. If I recall correctly it was pretty much a honda civic engine turned on end and put under a motor hood, which didn't help the weight issue much.

They perform pretty well, I wasn't overly imprssed with the throttle response, but things have improved vastly on four strokes in the past 5 years.

So, to summarize, not a bad motor, but really heavy.

I appreciate your incite, over all it still sounds like a good motor. The Honda is about the same weight as the other 4 stroke motors. 475 lbs +/-.

Is there anything I should be concerned about regarding this motors age?

I don't know anything about the 130 Honda, but is it the same weight as 4-strokes of comparable HP? I might be wrong but I think the 175 and 200 4-strokes weigh around 475 lbs, don't know if the smaller 4-strokes weigh that much. I'd compare it to a 115. Good luck.

One other thing to be aware of is that there was a informal recall on the older 130's for cracks in the exhaust ports. After the recall work was done there was a powerhead warranty for 10 years.

You should be able to get the S/N of the motor and take it to a honda dealer and have them check the recall status.

Weight wise, a quick comparison - the BF135 weighs 478 lbs, a 150 HP Yamaha 4 strokes weighs 466 lbs..

If you compare 115's - the Honda weighs 496 lbs and the yamaha is at 402 lbs... and no, that's not a typo - the 115 honda weighs more than the 135...
