Log Home Question

I am planning on building a log home in Blackduck MN.

Are 8" logs enough for Northern Minnesota? Or should I go with a 9" or 10" log for better insulation? It is a Northwest facing lot on Blackduck Lake. Although it is heavily wooded but that won't matter too awful much in winter.

Any help is very much appreciated.

John

I built log 2 years ago and went with an 8 in Log. I have found that its not really the log you need to worry about but how well they are fitted and connected together. Be prepared to shell out the extra dollars to have your logs properly caulked both on the interior and exterior. Log homes are a lot like women, High maintenance, but you can't let em go because they look so good. Good luck.
