MinnOutdoorsman
Hey guys, I'm thinking about trying these out. What would be the best size and color for fishing walleyes through the ice. I plan on buying maybe 2 or 3. Thanks.
zachp
I've had my best luck on a #5 which is a 2" in the copper gold color. 2nd choice would be Gold Metallic Orange in the same size and 3rd is Lum Orange Dace #4 or #5 which seems to work better for clearer lakes. I have not had very good luck on any of the perch colored darters. I have noticed that if you are constangly catching smaller fish that the chubby darter will sometimes trigger the larger ones to bite. Best method is to start jigging 6 to 10 inches off bottom, once you see a fish coming up slowly jig and raise it up to about 1.5 feet and it will usually trigger a strike, I've had walleyes hitting a darter so hard i'd have to watch the line until it'd go slack and set the hook.
