What depth should I start?

I live and fish in Ny but was hoping someone might be able to recommend waht depth I should start for rainbows and browns where most of the lake is 30fow or less. Any help is much appreciated.

Try in 4-7' and dont make much noise. This is where the rainbows should be. I have had trouble finding the browns this year but i would go into 8-12' for them. Also try sight fishing this can be a real blast. Welcome to FM, you can get alot of info here.

I would start in about 8 ft of water and keep moving deeper if you don't start seeing fish.

90% of the Rainbows, Splake, and Brookies I have caught this winter have been under 7 feet of water. You may need to try different depths if you aren't seeing anything-sight fishing is the only way to go because you can watch what direction the fish are coming from-deeper or shallower water. Don't be afraid to try 10-12 feet of water if you aren't seeing anything shallow.
