I've had the same SST flasher for many years, and yes, it works great on the ice. There are a few draw-backs - it's a battery hog, it's noisy and probably worst of all it has no interference rejection capabilities. I bit the bullet and bought an FL-8 a few years ago and have never used "old reliable" since, even for open water.
