Corking anybody???

Canuck

Recommended Posts

Fished the flats yesterday at Lockport and the water is about 1.7 to 2 ft deep. In 4 hrs we landed 31 kitties and had at least 8 break off. The guys I had (3) really couldn't cast baitcasters so I just fished normal, but if any of U know the area could you imagine what one could have done corkin that area. When I went out at 1PM I noticed NOBODY was on the flats they were all in the main current so I just pulled in and stayed there till quiting time (5PM). These kitties still broke water when they realized they were hooked but one could only imagine the numbers and the explosion if they could have corked. Hopefully the guys this week can cast and we can cork the flats because I am sure they will be stacked up there still.

Shanon they are just waiting for you, CORKIN SUCKS......RIGHT.

Canuck, now your doing it again to me! I can just see that cork go down! Whats the flow like now? Whats the curtain situation at the dam? I am going to try and slip away from this walleye action here and go back up for some real fishing.

Hey Shef!

The river in incredible shape, all the curtains are down and in place however there still releasing loads of water and this why she's producing the way it is at this time.
The action is so good between my place and the dam right now Canuck and the boys don't have too travel any further.....now how good is that! Fresh goldeye, sucker and frogs are the top producers at this time.

The day Canuck is referring too involved a corporate group of over forty guests, everyone of them caught multiple fish...now how good is that!

By the way how's the walleye fishing, better yet are you stocking up with a few gills?!!!!!

Two feet of water? How deep is it in the current?

What exactly does the "corking rig" look like? Are we talking big slip bobbers? What type of hooks etc. Does anyone ever catch fish on crankbaits? I'll be bringing some Shad Raps to play with. I know the channels will grab them if they can see them.

I hear Robby (Katfish) was up there and had a great time...I can't wait for Sept! Maybe even play with some eyes too eh?

Jimmy, you just had to beat me on numbers Friday to make up for Thursday, didn't you? Oh well, if anyone ever beats a triple-header of 1-40", 2-39's I'll be amazed. Oh yeah, we better compare tapes so you and Rob will start believing me.
Diane tells me that our Monday and Wednesday trips are cancelled, let's go corkin' the flats. Loser buys the beers!!!

Like I said Shef....you bring the gills and I'll do the cooking! By the way Canucks on the water as we speak and he's hammering them on the flats again! I can't be sure but it looks like he's cork'n?

What's all involved regarding cork'n for kitties? It's really quite simple, all that's required is a larger size "slip bobber" style doesn't matter. As for hooks, for years I have been using the Eagle Claw L042M-2/0 Wide Gap. I found that it too be perfectly suited for channels here on the Red. The way in which I rig a "slip bobber"
is by using a 6" to 8" hand tied snell & swivel below the bobber. The swivel servers two functions, one it acts as a lead keeper (you have too use some form of 3/8 oz. lead between the bobber and the swivel) and it also prevents line twist. It's important too set your rig so that its with in inches of the bottom or just brushing the rocks. This rig can be used in any depth,it becomes usefull in around snags as well.
