tulikow
I have a St.Croix Classic Cat rod. It is a 7.5 foot heavy power baitcaster rated for 15 to 60 pound line and 1 to 8 oz. lures. Would this be a good rod to use for flatheads?
korn_fish
YOU BET!!!the E-glass is preferred by most. the rod you have is one of my many rods in my arsenal and the same rod I use 90% of the time. St. Croix makes some awesome rods and are deffinitley worthe the extra $$$$ in my book.------------------http://www.angelfire.com/mn/flatheadpride/index.html[This message has been edited by korn_fish (edited 08-08-2003).]

fiskyknut
Those St croixs are sweet rods built in the USA with quality components. The heavy action rods paired with a quality reel should easily handle anything that swims in Minnesota waters for sure, and you could probably use them for fairly large marine gamefish as well cause they are way sturdy!Lot's of cheaper rods out there that would fill the bill adequately, but why not spend the extra bit of coin on an quality American legend, instead of an overseas mass produced cheapo. You made a great choice in my book.Regards....fiskyknut
DARK30
How much is this rod and whats the warranty look like? I'm pretty much sold on the Gapen product but nothings wrong with variety either.------------------cast,cast,cast,cast......
tulikow
Dark30I'm sorry that I didn't reply sooner, I havent been on the forum much lately. The rod was about $100. It has a 2 year warranty.
169Sportsman
I talked to a rep from St. Croix the other day and got the new 2004 catalog, apparently they are no longer making the Classic Cat. First the E-Cat now this, no more high quality mass produced E-Glass rods as far as i know. So snatch'em up now if you want'em.Tom
Dennis Steele
Thats kind of strange!Cattin' is gaining in popularity and they are discontinuing tackle lines?Hmmm.
Dirk W
They are really great rods but the warranty was poor. Two years....yuck. I have rods a third the price with five year warranties.
Guest
I bet, heck I know, if you talk with Rod of "Rods by Engel" he can make you the same rob...just better! Better because it is built to your specs and your particular needs.Rod can get whatever blank you need and tweak it to just what you need, no factory made "This is what you get" type rod.You will find his prices extremely competitive and the quality just plain sweet.------------------Ed "Backwater Eddy" CarlsonBackwater Guiding "ED on the RED"701-281-2300[email protected]
The Yeti
Just my 2 cents.. I have a handful of St Croix rods, 6.5 heavy musky, 6.5 medium casting, 6.5 med. spinning and a 6 med light spinning. All of them I've had and used for about 5 years now. Indestructable! Very nice rods. So far, so good with the 6.5 med casting on the river, but I have not yet wrestled with one of those big cats. Hopefully soon.
Just4fun
St. Croix might only have a 2 year warranty but the do have some great service. If you loose a tip it costs a shipping and a couple bucks to fix. I broke an older rod (totally my fault, and I told them that)and they replaced it with a newer modle for about 2/3 the cost of a new one.
