Select comfort adjustable beds??

sparkyaber

Question

The post says it all. I am looking to replace an old (4 year old, expensive mad.gif) innerspring mattress. I shelled out good money for the mattress and it is junk, my wife and I roll to the center. Box spring broke, and we didn't catch it right away, so it ruined the mattress.

I have a few co-workers that have had these beds and really liked them.

Reviews on-line are split about 50/50 with people either likeing it or hating it. I also see that their stock is plummeting, which makes me uneasy, will this company be around in 20 years when my warranty expires?

I am really on the fence about these beds I would like all opinions(only from people with experience wink.gif) good and bad.

Thank you

I am a chiropractor with 25 years in practice and one of the most common questions from my patients is "what mattress should I buy?" The comments in this thread pretty much reflect what I hear from my patients regarding mattresses. My reply to patients is that there is no one mattress for everybody. Secondly, what it feels like in a store probably is not what it will feel like when you sleep on it for a few nights. Rules for buying a mattress are as follows in my opinion.

1. Try before you buy. This means either getting a tryout period on the mattress or go someplace such as motel that has the type of mattress you are considering and sleep on it.

2. Firmer does not mean better it just means firmer

3. You get what you pay for. Meaning a cheap mattress will not be as good as a more expensive one. But that does not mean the most expensive mattress is the best one. At a certain point you are paying for a fancy top etc. One of my golden rules is that you do not cut corners on mattresses or shoes. You spend most of your life in one or the other. Treat yourself good in both cases and you will be much happier.

4. Yes you need a new foundation with a new mattress. Either a plywood base that is well supported or a new box spring. No mattress will perform well without a good foundation.

Summing it up, most people will be able to find a good mattress in the mid point price range but it may take more than one try to find it. Do not be afraid to try different firmnesses even in same mattress model and do take advantage of tryout periods. Finding the right mattress can be very frustrating so have patience. Good Luck

I think we paid around $2000 for ours last fall. We bought the 5000. It took me a bit to get used to it, but now I sleep like a rock and I don't wake up with a sore back.

We had one of those high buck Sealy's and I'd never get one of those again. I think it was the thick pillow top that was really the problem.

mnfishinguy- we got the 7000 series, one down from the big dog. It is a expanded queen which is 6" wider than a regular queen. We paid $3200 dollars out the door. BUT I got home and started inspecting our bed set, with the layout we have we are not able to use the expanded queen. The way that it works is same foundation as a normal queen, but the mattress actually hangs over the foundation. With our bed, the side rails have a decorative edge that wraps around the box spring and the mattress, thus not allowing the larger mattress to hang over the edge. frown.gif. We now are getting a regular queen, still the 7000 series, and I think it is 500 bones cheaper. If you do decide to get one, make sure you are allowed keep it for 60 days. I heard that it takes at least a month to really get a feel for new bed.

Well, have had the bed for a week now, and love it. I got lucky enough to spend the last week diging in the sand at my job, with a sore back and a two hour drive home, I was scared as to what the sleeping on a new bed would do to my body. Well every morning I woke up not stiff at all, even though my back was still alittle sore (just from the digging) the rest of my body felt great! And after my body got used to the digging the sore back went away, and I woke up every morning feeling great. I would recommend this bed to anyone to try. The only regret is that we couldn't get the expanded queen. It would have been nicer to have a little bit bigger bed.
