I saw somebody ice fishing on Crooked Lake....

in Andover. He was pulling a sled behind him. I love me some ice fishing, but...... can the ice really be safe at this time? Im thinking... less than 4 inches?

I saw someone in a portable out on Round Lake on Saturday.Iwas out on the channel on Chisago on Monday night there was 5 inches of ice.

I saw them yesterday at 4pm on my way home. It looked like there were 2 people. They were out in the center of the south basin. There are no fish in Crooked Lake that I would risk my rear end for.

I guess it's a personal call. Myself, I like to relax on the ice, stressing over if one is about to take a dunk or not does not fall under relaxing to me.

But the media can be so decieving about ice conditions. I remember last year I just returned home from a trip out on about 6 inches (walk out). On the news someone had just (accidentally) plunked a large SUV through Minnetonka and the media went ape. They even interviewed some folks walking off the ice who said it was fine to walk on but nuts to drive on. Still the media freaked and made a media mountain out of an rather obvious ice safety mole hill.

went out sunday at half time of the vikes game and measured 5 inches at the boat launch didnt go out further than 100 ft. Thats a narrow protected little bay though, no telling what the ice is like out in the middle.

I just got back from my first ice trip. The lake I was on in the east metro had 4"-6" everywhere I measured and it was all good clear ice.
