My dog's eyes

I spend a lot of time in the field chasing pheasants with my dogs. My question...Is there anything that I could put on my springer's eyes so that they get less beat up? Or is there anything that I could put on them post hunt to aid in the healing process?

Thanks,

BHS

Try searching for a post in mid october. There wree lots of good ideas. One I read in a mag once was to put some vaseline around the eyes before entering the field and it helps to keep things from getting in the eyes and also protects the skin. You probably have to clean and reapply if dirt and seeds collect on it, but its better than cuts to the skin.

Just returned from a trip to Sd with my Springer. Tried something new this trip as my Springers eyes have always suffered during and after a hard day of hunting. Each evening after the hunt I washed her eyes with the same saline solution that you would in your eyes for contacts. My vet recommended it and it really seemed to help.

I noticed the same thing this year with my 2 year old Brit. They'd be all scabbed over the next day. I didn't notice as much with my last Brit, so I let it go to see if her eyes would toughen up...and they did. We've been out each weekend and she's no longer having a problem.
