hello i have a strikemaster lazer mag express 8" and love it its fast and light this will be my 3rd season with this auger the only problem i have is when i go to reopen the holes in my permanent after they have been sitting for about a week the auger seems to bounce around a lot so my question is is it something with my auger or is re opening holes just to hard after they have sat for a week

thanks for the help

Matt

Reopening froze up holes is slower and tougher with any auger for sure. Some blade setups do work better than others but refroze holes are a pain compared to 'fresh' holes no matter the auger brand or blade setup.

If your auger doesnt have a power point opening old holes can be a bummer. If yours doesnt and you reopen a lot of holes I would recomend getting a auger assembly with the power point. They really help to keep the blades in place where you want them.

i have to agree with the chipper style auger assembly. opening old holes with the flat blade can be pretty tough. they require a more uniform surface to work well. the chippers seem to grind through anything. it is also hard on the blades when they are bouncing off the sides of the hole.

I am amazed how well an electric auger reopens holes. I wonder if it is the slow turn that grips and cuts a clean hole. The other beauty is you can reverse the polarity and the ice goes back down the hole. If you have a way to get one, or the need for one, they are awesome. My Dad has one I luckily get to use if I haven't used the house for a couple of days. I always bring a 12 volt on the ice anyway.

Don't all the ice shavings eventually come up your hole anyway after landing a fish? You'd probably be scooping a bunch of junk out of the hole, or am I just wrong on this?
