Battery storage ??

JohnMickish

Question

My dad always told me that when you store a battery in the garage to never leave it on the concrete, saying that the cold floor would drain and kill the battery. I've always stored them on a piece of 2X6 (and charged every month) but now am wondering if this is an old wives tale or if this is true? Anybody know?

My understanding is the cement storage issue was more "myth" than fact. The only consideration in the old days was the battery case construction and plate separation technology both of which are non factors in this day and age.

Batteries discharge has nothing to do with cement. Should you have a cement surface that "sweats", moisture can be a minimul issue, but again with a newer battery (7) years old that really isn't a issue as the case construction is far more advanced. Toss a piece of wood under it in these type areas. Cold and dry with periodic top offs with a charger and your good to go.

I've never had any problems with cement floor storage, but my garage has a sealed floor and is dry all the time. JMO
