CANOPY SAM
From what I've read, and from a little early season experience, most channel cats, and maybe flatheads as well, are moving up current at this time of year. I would guess they are following some type of seasonal migration of baitfish or something along those lines. Is this parallel to some of your experience at this time of year?My real question is, down around the metro area (St.Cloud - Mankato - and west of the Mississippi) are the cats starting to move up against barriers in the rivers - ie. dams, wing dams, rock piles, etc.? In my experience, I've caught loads of nice cats just below barriers in river systems at this time of year. Where around here can I find these barriers? I'm not very familiar with the rivers in this part of the state, and I'm looking for some good advice. Thanks!
LuckyFish
Canopy Sam, The only barrior that I can think of in the Mankato area is the Rapidan Dam on the Blue Earth River. It is located on Cty Rd 9 just off Hwy 169 south of Mankato. The Rapidan Dam Cafe is where to access the river, Jim charges a nominal fee to access (no boat access except canoe). The fishing can be great there. Walleyes, cats, and I even caught a 38" muskie too released of course. Phone 507 546 9997.Lucky
