Willowmaker ..

As soon as our water opens up over here (Floodwood) and warms up a few degrees I'll be more than happy to help put you on some cats. I just moved to the area myself, but do have some previous knowledge of the area, and some very reliable *informants* that have been fishing the river here seemingly from the beginning of time.

I am a die-hard catfisherman and I will have this river down soon after it opens up.

The St.Louis is partially open now, the Floodwood river is still locked up tight (access is on floodwood). When the water temps get close to 50 the fishing should start to get good.

The access is on the Floodwood river within the town of Floodwood. On Hwy 2, turn north on Hwy 73 (next to Food & Fuel station). Go about 3 blocks north and take a left (next to bridgemans and just before small bridge that cross's river)... Look for a public water access sign on your right side just outside of downtown...

The access is a bit shallow in low water. The Floodwood river will run into the St. Louis river about 1/4 mile downstream from the public access. There is another access NE of town on cty rd 29, but thats strictly a carry-in, and is pretty rough terrain.

Unless we get some more rain, its definately shallow running boats only.

The Floodwood river produces more northerns than anything .. there are holes all over the place, but its a tricky bank to do too much searching in one day, and not wide enough to fish from a boat without spooking the fish.

The Floodwood campground in town here has a nice spot to fish from shore, and also the access off cnty 29 northeast of town would be a likely place to start out...

Willowmaker ...

The river is looking very good. I made it out yesterday for the 1st time this spring and only managed to get a few suckers while soaking up the early afternoon sun. Another fisherman somewhat near me was only there a few minutes and hit a walleye. From what it seems to me the fish are starting to bite and it well worth the shot to try for some cats.

The baitshop here doesnt have any minnows yet and I didnt feel like driving 40 miles to find some... I should have kept one of the suckers for cut bait .. about the time I was going to keep one for bait they quit biting .. thats fishing I guess.

I'll be out today trying to get some bait, and then fishing tonight for a while.

I'll send you an email. If it comes up blank post a reply and let me know.

I have been hitting suckers and plenty of *accidental* walleyes here in Floodwood.

I havent had a chance to make it out at night yet. I had company drop in and stay for a long weekend .. killed my night fishing opportunities.
