November Bass?

Fever

Recommended Posts

I'm going out a couple more times later this week and was hoping for a bit of advice. What are typical bass patterns and tactics for this late in the year. I don't think I've ever fished from my boat after deer hunting so I'm not sure what to do and where to do it. I did make it out on Sat the 18th using jig and minnow (rip jiggin) and lost one walleye (I think) next to the boat. Hands were numb and didn't seem to work. For Some bass action this late though... Jig-n-pig, worm, rattle traps??? There are no docks left so shallow seems unlikely. Any help would be great. Wednesday and thursday look to be some real nice days. smirk.gif

Fever,

My advice is: find a river and try the deep holes for smallies. I don't seem to have any luck on the lakes for bass after the first of November. They are very lethargic and I'm not patient enough to catch em'.

Muskies are still going but most of the lakes around here (west metro) are icing up pretty good.

Good luck and let's hear how you did!

Ole

I went out Sunday the 19th on a fairly small metro lake. I had to break through about 80 yards of ice to get to the open water. It was actually a lot of fun. I'm always looking for bass, but in the late fall I'll take whatever I can get. I ended up catching 2 medium sized pike, a 3.5lb bass and a 6 inch perch. On what bait? The "zip lure"!!! Yeah the one they tried selling on TV. I read an article last fall about those types of lures and their effectiveness in the late fall. I was skeptical. The thing looks very cheaply made. BUT, it works great in cold water. It gets to the bottom quickly in deep water. It has a ton of vibration when pulled up of the bottom. I fish it semi-vertically. Make short casts anywere from the weedline out. Let it sink to the bottom. Give it a pull up a foot or two causing it to vibrate. Then slowly let it back down to the bottom. The flash and vibration get their attention. You are not moving the bait very far each time so the fish don't have to chase it down. The sudden movement of the bottom gets a reaction strike. (i think)

Yeah, I did pretty well myself yesterday. I too fished a metro lake and caught 9 very good size bass in about 4 hours. I kept 5 of em for dinner and released the rest. I know I know, should had released all of em, but I was hungry and worked hard for them in the cold. Live bait was the trick for me on this trip.... Find where the bass are located, and throw em some live bait.

Just got back from Bass fishing today. It was quite warm, so what the heck, might as well go right? Well, from the metro lake that I fished at, the warm weather as of lately has really triggered the late bass bite.... Lets just say I did great today! Bass anglers should take advantage of this warm front coming through.
