Boat repower.

JohnMickish

Question

I'm thinking I might repower the boat this year and was wondering about the resale at some point down the road. Does anyone know if it matters at the dealer (trade in price) if it's got a Yamaha vs. a Suzuki (or anything else) hanging off the back end? I know that the price the dealer sticks on it out in the lot will differ but what about trade in?

It's going to be interesting with Suzuki, they are good 4 strokes but they changed agreements with Bombardier and now they are all alone. I would speculate you will have more resale value with a Yamaha than a Suzuki, and if you get2 strokes, they are definitely worth more, I've seen boats going for nothing just because they have a Suzuki 2 stroke hanging on back.

I know the resale value will be different just wondering about trade-in value. I have come to realize that when trading in vehicles the dealers don't seem to care much about anything, just that model "X" in "Y" condition is worth "Z" value, period and wondering if the same thing happened in the boat world.

Any new boat salesmen out there?
