Boat license and registration

First time boat owner here, and I have a question about licenses.

My license expires in '06. Will the State of MN send notice as they do with auto plates, or do I have to apply on my own.

I live at the same address as when I purchased the boat.

I would wait a little then go re-register, it won't take much your reg# will be updated on main system, you'll get new stickers, and for 3 years you will be good.

They will mail you an application with the option of renewing by mail, online or at your local. I do mine online quick and easy.
