Sorry to hear you didn't enjoy your trip! I suppose theres some guys who don't help but I'm sure theres plenty who do. Not knowing anything about an area is a good reason to hire a guide if you can swing it. I wouldn't mind exploring by myself either....Maybe even surprise the local know it alls with some big fish!

Theres alot of southern rivers that I would love to check out, including the Cumberland. Getting into some good Blue Cats is on my wish list.

A friend and I went to the Cumberland a few years ago and did not have a very good experience. I don't know where the term "southern hospitality" came from, but we sure didn't find any. We had more than one person blatantly lie to us to try to steer us away from fish because we weren't locals.

Yaaa....Big Jim Moyer is a Cumberland River man, great guy. We fish in Canada every August for tonnage of sumo channels. He has a story or two that always gives me goosebumps.

Moyer is headed to South America pretty soon again. I was trying to get things set to tag along this season. Man is that a trip!

Piggy's the size of VW's roam them waters to the deep-deep South. If I don't get there this season, I will soon.

Hey Jason,

Sorry to hear that your trip to the Cumberland was so negative, I've fished it on a couple of occasions out of the Clarksville/Cumberland City region and really enjoyed the experience. No Tackle Bustin' blues, but we caught plenty of small ones to get us in the game.
If anyone is thinking of making a trip down to the Cumberland you might consider hiring a guide for the first day just to get a feel for things. Jim Moyer Would get my knod, I've fished with Jim both on the Cumberland and here on the Red River. He's a class act and will do everything possible to put you onto fish.
Another consideration if you just seeking some friendly southern hospitality and good advice, then I suggest giving Bill & Barb Bernhardt a call. This couple aren't guides, they simply have a love for life and a love for fishing. There always willing to give advice for those that are willing to ask for it! They live just outside Cumberland City, about 3 miles from the boat launch. There tel. number is 931-827-2214.
If you do give them a call, tell you got the info from me and tell 'em Stu says hi!

Hey Stu McKay, Welcome to the forum! I'm looking forward to getting up to your neck of the river! I had the pleasure of meeting Jim Moyer last year in Belle Plaine,Mn. He was in town for the Scott County Sheriffs Kids Catfish Derby. I could tell right away he is a great guy. Hopefully sometime I can get a little tour of the Cumberland River!

Hey Ed, Its a pleasure fishing with you too! You really know your stuff and your a great host! Remember....Me and Fishhead bring the beef!
