clam rope lights

I was at a local sporting good store over the weekend, and was asking them about lighting for a portable fish house.. I have never tried the clam rope lights, but have read the post on here about them and some people seem to say they are not bright enough. The guy at the store told me to wait till clam comes out with the new ones this year, cause they will be LED lights. My question is.. are the old rope lights LED's or something else.. Just wanted to check. Thanks

The old old rope lights were incandescent bulbs. The old (last years model) rope lights were LED lights. Supposedly they came in white or red, although I never saw the red ones stocked.

I've heard from salesmen that the clam LED rope lights last year had some problems. My beef is that they are only 3 feet long and expensive $30. You're much beeter off buying some of the "generics" out there. I picked up two 6' LED rope lights for $9 a piece. You can get more light for cheaper the price.

Where did you pick up the lights?

I picked up a set of cheap LED lights at Gander Mountian last winter....it worked great...ran it off a spare VEX batt. I have heard some people had problems with the cheaper lights...such as having parts of the string not light up..etc. No problems with mine...used them a lot last winter.

I also got a few sets of the 1st Ice? rope lights at Gander last year and they work just fine. I have used them in my house all year since getting them and they are still working good and they go a long time off a flasher battery.

For the price I paid, I think it was $6, it was well worth it.

they were made by Thunder Bay (China). I found them at reeds but see that sportsmans guide also carries them.
