Cats near Bloomington??

I would like to try the Minnesota River near Bloomington, where I live. Is it worth the try? I've never fished cats, but have learned some tips and tricks from this forum.

Does anyone have any experience fishing cats near Bloomington? Particularly from the 169 bridge to, say, Lyndale?

Any help you can give would be great.

Assuming your going in a boat...I'd try up past Cargill towards Credit River or Eagle creek. They can be anywhere in the Barge channel but once you get upstream past Savage you can pick out good looking spots alot better.

One shore spot in Bloomington I think would be a good spot for just an evening quickie is down by the old Ferry bridge crossing. Theres a bike trail crossing there now. Go downstream from the parking along the trail and look for the likely spot.

If you feel like a little walk...go accross the bike bridge and follow it up to the corner where the creeks dumps in right above the riprap from the old highway.

Hope this rain dosn't hinder things too much...I got an inch and a half so far today.

Good Luck! WET NETS!

I've fished the outlets from Blackdog lake. I've only caught a few fish there but have seen fish caught and talked with people that catch them there all the time. There's parking and it's right under a street light if you want to fish after dark. Good luck.
