Just wondering if there was still trout fishing available in the Black Hills... I'll be out there this weekend and if possible would like to try some fishing, I'll be fishing right down from Terry Peak if there were any suggestions.. I've only fished in the summer months so I was wondering if there was anything different about fishing this time of year as far as fly color or lure selections... Thanks for the help!

I lived in Rapid City for 5 years and regretibly fly fishing is one thing that I didn't get into very much. I did manage to catch multiple trout at Canyon Lake in RC, and also caught hundreds through the ice at Deerfield Lake. Every now and again I picked up a rainbow or two pulling plugs at Sheridan lake as well. I didn't fish the many trout streams much, but what I do know, I will share:

Try to match your presentation to whatever the trout are naturally feeding on(I'm not sure what the food of choice is at this time of year in that location).

Trout often hold up in eddies waiting for their next meal to float/swim by. Likely places are behind downed trees, large rocks, bends in the stream, etc. Also keep an eye on the deep pools as trout frequent these as well.

I would suggest a call to the GFP office in Rapid City. They may have some information for you on likely locations, presentations, etc. They may also have a bit more information regaurding regulations that I am not familiar with.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
