Help needed

I have never fished for cats before and would like to try. Are there any good spots on the Mississippi near St. Cloud. My fishing will be done from shore for the time being. Any help would be appreciated.

Hey Troll, You may want to check with the guys on the "Mississippi River north of Monticello" thred.

I have done some fishing on the river around the St.Cloud area but mainly for Smallmouth and Walleyes....The Cats gotta be there!

Let us know what you find out too!

Hey Troll, I haven't fished in St. Cloud, but I'm sure there are some good cats up there. Isn't there a dam in town? That's probably a good place to start. I fish cats between Clearwater & Elk River. There is a lot of good channel cat fishing on that stretch. Just look for typical fish holding structure like various current breaks, heads of holes, riffles etc. I especially like fishing whatever wood I can find. A good snag or brush pile with some current flowing through. Any feeder creeks in the area might be good. Fish with fresh cut-bait on the upstream side of the structure you are fishing. The cats will follow the scent trail & find your bait. Good luck! Vern
