Noodling in Oklahoma

I was flipping through the channels the other night and came across a program about noodling. I watched them pull a few Flatheads from stumps, snags, and undercut banks. I don't understand why someone would want to do something like that. There was no battle like we experience on rod and reel, just a few seconds and the fish was out of the water. They were keeping 'em too. It didn't matter what size they were. They also said that sometimes when reaching around in these spots looking for a Flatheads mouth, you can be bitten by turtles, snakes, and even beavers! Noodling just don't make sense to me.

I saw a short segment on it too on the show about dirty jobs. It hard to watch them cutting them up, but that's life. It did make me reaffirm why daytime flatheads are so hard to catch. The funniest part of that segment was the 2 guys that were showing him how to do it.

I'm sure it's quite a rush going under some chocolate milk, sticking your hands where you can't see, and possibly grabbing a 70lb fish. There's excitement and danger...plenty of adrenaline. I'd be scared to death, but I'm sure it's a lot of fun.

Yah I saw it too. I would never, ever, try it myself. I'm willing to bet if I did, my first creature would be a huge snapper and I would lose a few fingers right off the bat! crazy.gif I give 'em credit though, they are way braver (crazier) than I am!

I also think catching them on a rod and reel would be more fun and waaaaay safer. But some of those southern boys are a different breed...to them, this is how it's done and a fish is a fish, Channel, flathead whatever...it's food.
