The Imfamous Northern Flight!

Recommended Posts

Hope that it gets here soon. Saturday after I got done watching the mostly empty skies I drove around to ALL the lakes, ponds and sloughs that I know of. There was 1 (one) duck and it was on a pond that is not huntable! No ducks or geese at all in any of the picked corn fields! Only one shot oppurtunity in the last 4 times that I have been out and I blew that! Kick myself in the arse I tell ya! Good luck and N Joy the Hunt././Jimbo

Went out this morning before work and the slough that i hunt that is about 8 feet deep in the middle and about 30 acres + large was nearly froze over. Drove the boat around a little and broke up some ice.

We got our limit of 12 Ringnecks but the ducks were not even close to the numbers we had seen and i think the froze pond will kick them south. Hope the weather opens up the pond for the northern Flight.

I'd think it will. Temps are forecasted for the mid 40's to mid 50's in southcentral MN.

Me personally, I'm waiting for that 2-day (or more) time period where we get a big northwest wind and the highs are between 25 and 35 degrees with lows around 20 or the upper teens. Those days make for some awesome hunting!

Fishingmike,

what species is predominant? Up on Rainy there were two thousand or so ringies on sunday, several hundred mallards, Blackducks, Goldeneyes, Buffleheads, and of course what everyone always likes to see. Redheads, a few cans, and several hundred Scaup. I have not seen ducks like this in the the years that I have been duck hunting. I am calling a buddy up there tomorrow to see if they are still around, or if the 24 degree weather froze them out. If they are still there by some miracle, you can bet that I will be there this weekend.

Take Care all and Good Luck hunting!!!!
