WELL AN ACT OF GOD JUST SET MOST OF MY BAIT DOWN THE CREEK! MAYBE THE TREE HUGERS ARE RIGHT....DON'T KILL ANY ANIMALS AND EAT LETTUCE AND STICKS N STUFF.

I JUST GOT 2.5" OF RAIN AND THE CREEK IS CHOCOLATE COLORED. THIS MOST LIKELY WILL CHANGE THE BITE ON THE MINNESOTA RIVER IF THIS RAINFALL WAS WIDESPRED.I GUESS WHEN YOU FIND THIS RIVER LOW AND SOMEWHAT CLEAN, YOU'D BETTER FISH WHILE YOU CAN.
WET NETS!

Dark, a guy that works with me left home at 7 this morning and he had over 3" of rain, he lives in the MN river bottom south of Sacred Heart. Actually, Jesse Ventura stopped less than a 1/4 of a mile from his house yesterday on his tour of the MN river and CREP land. We needed the rain bad though! Good fishing.

I didn't realize that we had so much rain. There's more coming I guess. We finally got out last night until about 10. Just one flat about 6 pounds. I need some big ones! Those creek chubs we caught make a big difference. I left my chub out there for about an hour and a half before he got hit and he was tuggin' the whole time. They are much more active than the bait store suckers and free too. I guess we'll see how the rain effects the river this weekend. Vern

DARK
Hope you didn't lose your traps!A big gully washer like that could have restocked some of my bait tanks! What did it do the the water levels? Is she coming up?Some of my favorite spots are going to be ruined if she did.I hope the fish are not done eating just yet.Rising water sucks but I think the cooling temps has them moving and looking for wintering holes and packing it on for the winter.I have caught them into october. If the river stabilizes we could still have some good fishing.

ITS NOT OVER YET! I THINK THE RAIN WE HAD SOAKED IN REAL WELL AS WE WERE SO DRY TO START WITH. LAST NIGHT THE RIVER LOOKED GREAT ALTHOUGH ITS TAKES A COUPLE OF DAYS FOR WATER OUT WEST TO SHOW UP HERE. THE CREEKS CAME DOWN REAL FAST AND NOW ARE CLEARED UP PRETTY GOOD TOO.
WE HAVE TO GET SOME MORE PICS THIS FALL YET! I NEED A NEW BIG WALLEYE SHOT TOO!
WET NETS!

WELL I GOT SOME MORE HAPPY MINNOWS DOWN IN THE CREEK JUST WAITING FOR A TRIP TO THE RIVER BANK. I'M GONNA HIT THE ROOT RIVER TONIGHT BUT I'LL BE READY FOR MUD SHORTLY!

I THINK THE EYES WOULD LOVE SOME OF THOSE SMALLER CHUBS TOO.
WET NETS!

My traps were full of 4-5" suckers.I don't think they were very happy! Also caught some more of those madtom things and a ton of crayfish.Went out to the rapids last night and all was eerily quiet. No minnows on the surface or in the water.Nothing even on the sonar.Weird!

    • I just figured that it is easy enough to just get a 3 bank so when the boat is not in use I can keep all 3 batteries charged. I have not bough a charger yet, maybe I will give it some more thought. Edit: After thinking this over, with the size, weight, and heat output of the charger (as well as the cost) I think it makes sense to just buy a 2 bank charger, I have a smaller charger i can use on the starting battery when the boat is sitting at home. Forgive me, for i am a retired engineer and I have to obsess over everything...
    • Congrats on the motor!  I think you’ll like it.   I can’t say much on the charger location but I’ve seen them under the lid in back compartments and under center rod lockers.  160 degrees is more than I expected to hear.   Curious why you’re opting for a 3 bank charger with a 24V trolling motor.  Unless you don’t feel you be running you big motor enough to keep that battery up as well?
    • I did buy an Minnkota Ulterra, thanks for the recommendations. I had a bunch of Cabela"s bucks saved up, which helped. Now i need to get an onboard battery charger. Where do you guys mount these things in your boat? The manufacturer I am looking at {Noco genius) says tht their 3-bank charger will run at 160 degrees, seems like a lot of heat in an enclosed compartment? Thanks for any input on this.
    • You're very lucky a troop of Sea Monkey's didn't carry you away.
    • Wasn't terrible at a state park beach. Antelope island maybe.  I wouldn't recommend it as a beach destination tho.  Figured I was there, I'm getting in it.
    • The water looked and smelled disgusting with hundreds of thousands of birds sh*tting in there.  About as gross as the Salton Sea. When I duck hunted there I didn't even want to touch the water.
    • It's kinda gross with the algae in the summer but I got in it anyway.  Wanted to see the increased bouyancy at work.  You can kinda tuck yourself into a ball and you'll just float with your head above water.  When dry off you look diamond encrusted with the salt.
    • We went to the flats too. I dipped a tire on the rental car onto it just to say I’ve been there, but it was still pretty soft from winter melt. After seeing some moron in a BMW suv get dragged out of the muck I had no intention of repeating his stupidity.
    • I've been out on the flats. It's like being on a different planet
    • I’ve only seen that from the air.
