Minnesota river in Shakopee

Anyone have a couple spots they could share with me? Went down today in my buddies boat, the only thing we caught was a sheephead about five pounds on a sucker. Got sun burn also. Tried the deep holes by the snags but just couldnt get them to bite. Any advice?

HI FISHTRAP3,
WELL I'M NOT (YET) REAL FIMILIAR WITH THE SHAKOPEE AREA. I CAN TELL YOU THE RIVER IS PRIME AND LOW ENOUGH TO FIND GOOD HAUNTS RIGHT NOW. I THINK YOU MAY HAVE BETTER LUCK IN THE LATE AFTERNOON INTO EVENING AROUND A CREEK IF YOU CAN FIND ONE. I CAN SEE THAT HUGE SANDBAR UP STREAM FROM THE HWY 169 BRIDGE AND I WONDER HOW THAT SPOT WOULD CHECK OUT. LOOKS LIKE NICE ROCK RIP-RAP ALONG THE EDGE JUST DOWN FROM IT.
HOW DEEP OF WATER DID FIND AROUND THERE?
WET NETS!

HOW DEEP OF WATER DID YOU RUN INTO ANYWAY?

What are you fishing for?Cats? If you are fishing for cats I would suggest finding rock.Any old snag does not produce for me.If you can find a snag with rocks then there is a better chance to find fish.Heck you dont even need the snag!Fish in front sunken rock bars or at the base of where it starts to rise.
Rocks are the key.
Good luck!

I MENTIONED ABOVE LOOKING UP FROM THE BRIDGE IN SHAKOPEE -- THAT WOULD BE 101, NOT 169. I DON'T KNOW BUT IT LOOKS GOOD AND WHO KNOWS WHATS JUST AROUND THE NEXT BEND! I DO NEED TO EXPLORE AROUND THERE SOMETIME.

Try the large bend a couple of miles from the 101 bridge upstream. There is a creek/runoff from rahr malting that runs into a deep hole. It is directly below a campground. Caught a 45lb there last yr from shore. Large sucker enticed it. Anywhere near there that looks like a snag try there.

HI DTRO, A FRIEND OF MINE OWNS THAT CAMPGROUND AND I'VE BEEN DOWN BELOW BY THE RIVER A COUPLE OF TIMES THERE WITH NO LUCK (YET). THATS A NICE LOOKING AREA AND I WILL BE SPENDING SOME MORE TIME DOWN THERE.
FISHHEAD AND I HAVE BEEN HAVING ALOT OF RUNS THE LAST COUPLE OF NIGHTS UP TOWARDS CHASKA NEAR THE SUGAR FACTORY. WE HAD ABOUT 7 OR 8 RUNS LAST NIGHT AND ONLY LANDED 1 SMALL CHANNEL ON A DEAD CHUB. THE NIGHT BEFORE, I HAD 5 RUNS AND HOOKED TWO SMALL FLATHEADS. KINDA FRUSTRATING WHEN YOU CAN'T HOOK UM BUT WE ARE USING PRETTY BIG BAITFISH.

WELCOME TO THE FORUM FISHNCHESTER! I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT HE CALLS IT...RIVERSIDE OR RIVERBEND...SOMETHING LIKE THAT. ITS ON THE WEST END OF SHAKOPEE. I CAUGHT A 23 1/2 lb FLAT DOWN THERE TONIGHT. WHERE YOU FROM?

23 1/2? Nice fish... even though its half the size of the monster you caught!
Is the campground more of an RV park? You walk down to the river on a paved bike/walking trail? If so... I think I found it today. Didn't fish it.... was just scoping out the area to see if I could find it.

BTW-- I'm from Apple Valley.

Well I am going out for flats one or two nights this weekend(sat.sun.)and since Dark is going to go play with those little fish in those stupid clear streams somewhere in southeast MN this is an open invitation to anyone who would like to join me.Won't be an allnighter but out past 12:00 any way. They do seem to be biting.Hey vern and ICF how about you guys or anyone?Reply here or Email me

Well I just left DARK out there sitting in the dark.Pretty slow tonite.I got half a run, nearly lost my rod and that was all the action I saw. When I left DARK had two runs no fish.I am heading out in the boat to try my favorite spot next time.I bought bait today and I think a guy should catch his own chubs.$24 for a dozen big suckers that don't kick!Chubs are the way to go.They are free, fun to catch and kick like there is no tommorrow(not for them if a big cat gets them)

Well old favorites do pay off.I got a 43"30lb or better(battery was dead in the scale). This beats my best that also came out of this spot.I think I will try it again tommorow.

Try the SportsStop for suckers.I'm not sure the name of the road its on but it is behind that big building at the junction of 101 and 69(shakopee 101 bridge)They close at 7:00 or 7:30 so give yourself some time.If you want to catch some chubs,I'm not much help. All my favorite creeks are not producing this year,I think the last harsh winter killed most of them off.I would come down and join you but I am going to take the boat to my favorite stretch of the river to give it another try.I had some other good runs but when i tightened the line to feel for the fish they dropped it.Makes your heart drop when you can feel a decent fish and he decides he's not hungry all of a sudden.

I grew up in Apple Valley,Lived right by Lac Lavon.

Sounds like I might be going down there on tuesday. The guy that I go with always wants to go during the day frown.gif Any ideas for catching some during the day?
I start second shift on thursday, get off at midnight. Do ya think it would be worth heading down to the river after midnight?
Thanks for the help everyone!!

Hey fishhead, nice fish! We've been working our new spot and have only caught that one little one. A few power runs and that was it. I'm guessing that a few of the runs are some of those big channels we've caught in the area. Just got back from the creek by my house and hooked about 12 or so chubs. We also set up a minnow trap. I can't wait to see what we get in the trap. -Rick

I tried down by the camground tonight. Not a very good outing... but hey... can't expect everything on the first time out right? Was using large suckers. Had one small run... but that was it.

I just got back from one of my favorite spots.I had 6 runs lost two in the rocks and snags and got one little one. These runs were feirce.Even the little guy took off like a bat out of hades.Oh yeah I couldn't catch any chubs today so I was using bullheads! They really kick!I talked to a few guys on the way back and they were not having much luck. This really makes me think you have got to have some rock where you are fishing, and don't be afraid of the current.I always seem to better in a little current and rocks.

fishtrap, you can get some nice channels during the day and a smaller flathead.

InnerCityFishing
Now where exactly is the creek by your house? grin.gifI'm sending Rick a picture of that fish he might post it on the site. The pictures turned out pretty good

FishNChester
If you want to catch one DON'T GO WITH DARK!His luck is enourmous and it does not spill over on to you!I couldn't catch one all last week when I was with him.Just kidding of course.

Actually I am glad you weren't there. You would have got him instead of me grin.gifI don't know if the pics will be good. There was no one to hold the camera.I just held out the camera in one hand and hugged and put my cheek up to the fish grin.gif.No I have a tripod in the boat but I really couldn't see to aim it at the right spot.We will see, they are at the photo mat right now.

I bet you didn't realize when you caught a trout, just thought it was the bait grin.gifI hope to try to get out at least once this week during the evening.NOW I have the fever for the flavor of a flathead.(this is not to say that I would eat one just kiss one)I'll be kinda busy this week getting ready for the Fishing Minesota Championship Tourney. All I have to do is put the stuff in the truck but it will take at least two days with all the rods and gear I will need.(I'll probably use one rod and one rig all weekend)Give me a call I have a couple bullheads to use up.
