I know a guy who lives on Bevens creek and last night I took the ultralight and fished for chubs.I did get about half a dozen nice sized chubs and well over a dozen BIG shiners.I dont't know if the shiners are going to make it but they are still kicking today. What is really interesting is that I was also catching small walleye. At fist when I saw the school I thought they were suckers then I tossed my bait in and pulled out a little cigar. There were about three dozen in the school. It was real interesting watching how they inspect the bait before they decided if they wanted it or not.
The night before we wrestled a 24lb flathead from a deep pool in his section of the creek. This is 4 miles from the river itself! He was fat and happy so we just put him back.Big flatheads make great pets you know!

I got the chubs on Yozuri pins minnow. The shiners cam on the same or a tiny black jig with a bit of crawler. Its strange but sometimes the chubs want to chase something and won't take any bait. The shiners I couldn't keep off the line no matter what I was using. There were suckers in the creek also but I could not get them to bite anything.I went to a different creek tonite and got a bunch of chubs on a plain hook and bit of crawler but the biggest of these was only about 5",not much use for Flatheads.I guess I will have to hit the bait shop for some suckers. You should try those bullheads.I hear they are really good bait.I wanted to try them but I have run out of time to get my own bait.

Thanks for the info. I am going to head out tonight with some bullheads and see what happens. It is a lot cheaper then going to buy suckers at the bait shop!! Good luck to ya!!

Hey Fishhead! How did you catch that flathead? Were you fishing cats back there? That sounds pretty cool catching a big flat way back in the creek. How deep was it? Good luck in the tourny, Vern

We weren't realy fishing for cats in the creek.Just happened on him laying in a pool about 4 ft deep(the deepest one at this time).I always keep gear in my truck so I went and got it and after pestering him for about a half hour up he came.I actually had to get in the water and wrestle him on to shore.I can't imagine what those southern noodle boys go through. We weighed him and put him back.He was in the very same place the next night, although he looked a little angry.

I was gonna ask ya if you noodled him out of there. That's some crazy stuff those noodlers do, reaching around in hollowed out logs. You never know what's down there. I wonder if anyone does that up here. That would be a good topic. Anyway, that's an interesting story. Vern
