Bird count for Lac Qui Parle ?

Anybody have a up to date Goose count for Lac Qui Parle conrolled hunt zone?

Heading there this coming weekend, I look forward to this trip every year...It's a dump shoot.

Also how are the water levels in the area?

i believe the star tribune reported approx. 15k birds in the refuge; and there has to be probably another 3-5000 between appleton and morris. we hunted a field south of morris; three guys, six birds in about 5 minutes once the birds started to come in; let the rest land and as soon as i get the instant camera developed you guys will see some great pictures of what 400-500 birds looks like all trying to land on 16 full body and 24 shell decoys! it was so loud we coudnt hear eachother laughing in the blinds next to eachother!

If you go to the DNR web site, Select Hunting, then Waterfowl and then look for the Migration Report. This is usually updated on a weekly basis so you can get some numbers usually on Thurs or Friday. We were out at LQP last weekend and saw a decent flight of birds in the mornings, not great but better than other years at this time. Really glad the moved the season back and we get to shoot 2/day.

I just drove through Morris yesterday and saw all the birds. Did you hunt private or public?

I sure hope the goose numbers keep going up. I am going to be there on the last weekend of the month for 2 days.

50,000 plus according to Dave at the refuge.

83,000 plus as of Saturday. Lots of geese being shot. Call DJ's in Montevideo for info on the goose hunting.
